Stop losing your evenings
to ‘what's for supper?’
Every working week, you have to answer the same question seven nights in a row — usually after work, usually with hungry kids waiting, usually with something frozen solid in the freezer. By Wednesday you're ordering takeaways you didn't budget for. By Sunday you're back to scrolling through old recipes with cold tea, trying to plan a week.
What's For Supper takes that question off your plate. Tonight's dinner is already chosen. The chicken came out of the freezer last night because we reminded you. The shopping list is grouped by aisle and sized for your family. It's built for South African moms, in South African Rands, around the food your family actually eats.
Three minutes to set up. Cancel any time. Your data stays in South Africa.
We took back our Sunday evenings.
Now we'd like to take back yours.
Imagine it's Sunday evening, just before six. The kettle has just boiled. The kids are watching something quietly for the first time all weekend. The new week is starting tomorrow morning — lunchboxes, school run, work, sports practice, the whole machine.
Normally, this is the moment you sit down with a notepad. You scroll through Pinterest and old WhatsApp recipes. You try to remember what you cooked last week. You write down chicken, scratch it out, write minceinstead, then realise the mince is in the freezer and won't defrost in time. The lamb leg you actually wanted to use is at the back, frozen solid. The kids don't eat curry anymore, so Wednesday's out.
Ninety minutes later, you have half a meal plan, a partial shopping list on the back of a Pick n Pay slip, and a vague sense that you forgot something. Your tea is cold. The kids have moved on to the second cartoon.
By Tuesday at 5 pm, you're standing in front of an open freezer trying to figure out what's for supper. Again.
We built What's For Supper to give that Sunday evening back. In about thirty seconds, you get a complete week: seven dinners, sized for your household, built around what's already in your kitchen, costed in Rands at your usual retailer, with a shopping list that knows the difference between a Spar trip and a Checkers trip.
On Tuesday morning, your phone shows you a small note: tonight's curry needs the chicken from the freezer — take it out before bed.On Tuesday at 5 pm, when you walk through the door, the chicken is already defrosted. Supper is decided. The recipe is one tap away. The rice and spices were already in your pantry because we built the meal around what you actually have. It takes 35 minutes. The kids will eat it. There's no Mr D order in the budget this week.
That's what this is. Not a recipe app. Not a meal kit. A small piece of software that does the tedious, draining part of feeding a family every night so you can use your evening for something else.
Three simple steps. About three minutes total.
Here's exactly what happens when you sign up. No surprises, no hidden upsells, no spreadsheet-style work on your side.
- 1
Tell us about your family
Sign up takes about three minutes and doesn't ask for a card. You'll add the people in your household — you, your partner, the kids, anyone else who eats with you regularly — with their ages and how big their appetites are (a 14-year-old rugby player needs different portions than a 5-year-old).
Then you'll tell us where you usually shop (Pick n Pay, Checkers, Shoprite, Spar, or Woolworths), pick the kinds of food your family enjoys (Cape Malay, Indian, braai, plain — whatever fits), and flag any allergies or strong dislikes we should never put on the table. This is a one-time setup. From here on we just ask you to confirm or update if anything changes.
- 2
Stock your kitchen — without typing it all out
You don't have to manually list every spice, tin, and packet in your home. There are three quicker ways. First, tick off the basics from a pre-built South African staples list during onboarding (salt, sugar, rice, oil, the obvious stuff).
Second, snap a photo of your fridge, freezer, or pantry shelves. Our AI looks at the photo and identifies the items — chicken thighs, milk, tinned tomatoes — and sorts them into the right place automatically. Third, the easiest of all: take a photo of your most recent till slip. Every line item flows straight into your kitchen, and the prices contribute (anonymously) to a shared price database that helps us estimate your weekly basket more accurately over time.

Get your week of dinners
When you're ready, tap Generate this week's plan. In about thirty seconds, you get seven dinners — Sunday roast on Sunday, a quick mid-week stir-fry, a Friday braai if that's your thing — sized for your family, with full recipes, prep and cooking times, and step-by-step methods.
The shopping list is grouped by aisle (Produce, Meat, Dairy, Pantry) with a price estimate next to every item. One tap sends the whole list to your family WhatsApp group. If you don't feel like Wednesday's bobotie, tap Swap meal and we offer three alternatives in two seconds. Done.
Here's what a real week looks like
This is the actual view you see on a Monday morning. Each day shows the meal we've planned, how long it takes, what it costs in Rands, and how much of it is already in your kitchen. Tuesday is interactive — if pap & wors isn't your family's thing, tap the 🔄 Swap chip on its row to see three alternatives, exactly the way the real product works.

Six things a meal-planning app should do.
Not a feature list. The concrete things that lift weight off your week, written in plain language.
Plans around what you already have
We start by looking at what's in your pantry, fridge, and freezer. That bag of rice you forgot, those three bottles of spice, the half-bottle of olive oil — they all become inputs to the meal plan. The meals we suggest pull from your existing stock first, which means your shopping list shrinks. By Friday night you're eating that frozen mince that's been sitting there for a month, instead of throwing it out next time you defrost-clean.
Sized for who's actually eating
Two adults and a six-year-old don't eat what two adults and a fourteen-year-old rugby player eat. We track every member of your household — adults, teens, children, seniors — along with their typical appetite. Every meal is portioned for the people actually sitting at your table. No more recipes 'serves 4' that leave half a plate untouched, no more hungry teens at 9 pm.
Tells you what to defrost — the night before
When tomorrow's recipe needs the chicken thighs from your freezer, we put a small reminder on your home screen tonight: 'Take out the chicken before bed for tomorrow's curry.' No more 5 pm panic in front of an open freezer, no more cold-water defrost in a sealed bag, no more falling back to takeaways because the meat is still rock-solid at suppertime.
Tracks every Rand you spend on food
Every till slip you scan turns into a spending insight. See exactly how much you spent this month, broken down by retailer (Pick n Pay vs Checkers vs Spar) and by category (protein, dairy, produce, household). When the budget feels tight you'll know precisely where the money went — and which categories have room to cut. No more end-of-month grocery mystery.
Knows where prices are best this week
Every till slip you (and other South African households) scan contributes anonymously to a community price database. We use that to figure out where each item costs the least at the moment. When your weekly basket would be R30 cheaper at Spar than your usual Pick n Pay run, we let you know quietly on your shopping list. You decide what to do with the information; we don't push you to switch.
Don't fancy Wednesday? Swap it in two taps
Open Wednesday's meal, tap Swap, and we offer three alternatives that respect your allergies, your budget, and what's already in your kitchen. Pick one, done — your week is updated and the shopping list adjusts automatically. There's no re-planning, no scrolling through recipe books, no negotiation with the family about whether 'one more night of pasta' is acceptable.

On your phone, where supper happens
Most of cooking happens at the stove with sauce on your fingers — not in front of a laptop. Supper Hero lives on your phone’s home screen, ready in two taps.
Plan tonight's dinner from your phone
Same Supper Hero you know, in a chromeless app shell. Tap, scroll, tick — never opens the browser bar.
One-tap pantry + receipt scanning
Hold the camera over a till slip; the app pulls every line item, price, and category. Same on a fridge or pantry shelf.
Built for SA Wi-Fi
Designed to work even when the bars are flaky. The plan is local, the prices are cached, and the shopping list works offline.
Or just sign up in your browser and tap the “Add to Home Screen” option in the menu — you’ll get an installed-app experience without sideloading. Works the same on iOS Safari and Android Chrome.
